Christmas usually offers some wonderful opportunities for ensembles to enjoy a variety of musical experiences, from performing a festive concert, to attending local carol services. 

This year is going to be a little different, but there are lots of people working very hard to bring incredible music and the spirit of Christmas to everyone this year. 

Here’s a roundup of some of the best online Christmas concerts this December – share it with your ensemble so they can enjoy different but equally fulfilling musical experiences this Christmas. 

A Christmas Celebration – Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

Recorded at St. Alban’s Cathedral, world-renowned composer and conductor John Rutter and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra have teamed up with actor Simon Callow, vocal group VOCES8 and a host of other special guests for this festive celebration. 

When? Thursday 10th December at 7.30pm

A Singalong Christmas – London Symphony Orchestra

You’ll be able to watch this free concert from the London Symphony Orchestra on their YouTube channel where it will remain for 90 days after the event. The LSO hope that viewers will join in and singalong to the festive classics they’ll be performing.

Handel’s Messiah For Our Time – Handel + Haydn Society

What could be more emblematic of Christmas than Handel’s Messiah and, in particular, the Hallelujah chorus? Boston’s Handel + Haydn Society will be streaming a very special version of Messiah that reflects this unusual time that we’re all living through. 

When? Premiering on Sunday 20th December at midnight, then available throughout the holidays.

A Starry Night from Lambeth Palace

This festive concert is in aid of Ronald McDonald House Charities UK and will take place at beautiful Lambeth Palace in the heart of London. The spectacular line up includes the English National Opera Choir, the Male London Welsh Rugby Choir, clarinettist Emma Johnson MBE, soprano Alexandra Kennedy and Classical Brit Award nominees Classical Reflection. 

Tickets are being sold for the live event and you can also livestream the event for free, although of course donations are welcome. 

When? 15th December 7.30pm – 9pm
