Popular Destinations For German trips

How to choose your tour

Your trip will be tailored to meet your specific requirements and learning objectives. So, all the trips you see on this website are designed to inspire you (and definitely aren’t set packages).

We usually group our German trips into two ‘types’ – the key difference being whether or not they include lessons at one of our partner language schools.

German Language Culture Trips

If your overall aim for your trip is something like to give your group a taste of Germany and the German culture (as well as encourage them to practise their German skills ‘in the wild’) then you’re probably looking at German Culture trips.

These trips combine sightseeing and cultural activities, providing an unforgettable introduction to Germany.

Watch your students use their German skills to explore the culture and interact with native speakers to enjoy a deeper experience of the culture. They’ll remember these experiences for the rest of their lives. It could even be the start of a lifelong passion for Germany (or languages and travel in general).

They’ll return to school with more enthusiasm for the German language, and languages in general, as well as greater confidence in their skills. You’ll notice a huge improvement in engagement, as they will understand just how exciting it is to learn German.

Your German Culture trip will also help to develop your students’ intercultural understanding.

Immersing them in another culture, you’ll show your students how crucial it is to be open to new cultural experiences. They’ll understand the need to respect other cultures and how that can help them to develop connections with people from all around the world.

Your trip will put your students on the path to becoming better global citizens who know how to respect other people and their cultures and be excited by other cultures. You’ll broaden their horizons and could spark a real passion for travel, exploration, culture and foreign languages.

You could pretty much visit anywhere in Germany that takes your fancy on one of these trips. You could choose to visit a buzzing, dynamic city like Berlin, Munich or Cologne, or opt for a quieter destination such as the Rhine or the Black Forest, where your students can experience a more ‘traditional’ Germany. Wherever you go, we’ll make sure your trip is completely unforgettable (for all the right reasons).

German Language Study Trips

Our German Language Study Trips are the ones that include language lessons at specialist language schools. In Germany, those schools are located in Berlin and Cologne.

These totally immersive German school trips are generally most popular with older groups preparing for exams. However, as your students will be taught in closed groups, they’re suitable for everyone.

Most groups do choose to have lessons every day (to make sure they make as much progress as possible), but our schools in Germany are pretty flexible, to be honest. So, just get in touch if you only want a couple of lessons, or have a mixed group with a variety of needs to cater for.

Before you travel, we’ll put you in touch with teachers from the language school to discuss lesson content and make sure it hits your trip objectives. They’ll all be highly-qualified native speakers, by the way (so your group will be in great hands).

When they’re not in lessons, your students will enjoy a programme of cultural activities and sightseeing opportunities, designed to get them speaking German (and give them a taste of the culture).

As lessons will be in closed groups, the content can be tailored to meet your specific learning objectives, and you’ll be able to liaise directly with the teacher at the language school to discuss this in advance of your trip.

Being surrounded by the German language will give your students the encouragement they need to start using their German on an everyday basis, to speak with locals, navigate the city and enjoy deeper cultural experiences.

They’ll surprise themselves with how quickly they relax into it and enjoy being immersed in the German language. And every time they have an interaction with a German person and can make themselves understood, their confidence will improve hugely.

Your students will return home having honed the skills you wanted them to focus on during the trip, and with a greater confidence in their German language skills. And this will leave them much better prepared to perform well in their exams (or just engage more in lessons).

What's A Language Study Tour Really Like?

Wondering what our language study tours are really like? And what benefit do they offer your students over other options?

FAQs

Why arrange a German school trip?

All linguists know the best way to learn a language is to be totally immersed in it. So, it makes sense that immersing your students in German is only going to have a positive effect on their language skills.

Confidence in their language skills will soar from using German and being understood by native speakers. This can be a life-changing experience and could even spark a passion for all languages in some of your students (which is such an incredible gift).

A brilliant side effect of your German school trip will be your students suddenly ‘getting’ why we bother learning foreign languages.

And that’s going to make life an awful lot easier once you’re back in the classroom.

Should we go on a German Culture trip or a German Study trip?

It’s totally up to you. Including language lessons will generally make your trip a bit more expensive (and limits where you can go), but if your group really need to focus on improving their level of German, it’s a no-brainer.

If your trip aim is to give your students more of an intro to Germany and an opportunity to start building confidence with their spoken German, you’re probably looking at a German Culture trip.

Whatever you choose, we’ll design your trip to suit your group and your objectives. So, if you’re not sure, just get in touch and we can chat through the options.

Where can we go on a German Culture trip?

Berlin is (of course) one of our most popular destinations. As the capital, there’s arguably no better place in which to soak up the atmosphere and get a taste of what Germany is all about. This is a city that owns its long, complicated history, while also having an almost unrivalled modern outlook. And it’s one of the most creative cities in Europe, so your students will love the buzz here.

If it’s a cool city you’re after (but Berlin seems a bit big), we can highly recommend Hamburg. Considered Germany’s ‘capital of cool’, there’s pop culture, maritime history and epic architecture to explore here.

Want to visit a historic city but fancy going somewhere a bit different? Explore the essence of Bavaria in Munich, or discover more than 2,000 years of history in Cologne.

Looking for a quieter destination where your students can explore a more ‘traditional’ Germany? The Black Forest is a fantastic choice – your students will love the traditional crafts here, as well as the spectacular landscape. They’ll also be able to find out about life here over the centuries, all while practising German.

Or why not head to the spectacular Rhine? A huge favourite with our school groups, this area really is the heart of ‘fairy tale’ Germany and is famous for the magnificent Rhine and Moselle rivers, the imposing clifftop castles and the charming riverside towns.

Where can we go on a German Study trip?

We’re super picky about the language schools we work with. They have to meet a really strict list of criteria and so we currently offer German Language Study trips in Berlin and Cologne.

Obviously, Berlin’s always a huge favourite because it’s such a fun, exciting city with so much to explore – whether you’re into art, history or just want a great overview of life in Germany.

In the mornings, your students will be able to take part in sightseeing or cultural activities, where they’ll be encouraged to use their German as much as possible. They’ll then head over to our partner language school for lessons in the afternoon.

And, being in a big city like Berlin, there’s plenty to do in the evenings, from catching a German film at the cinema to taking a trip to the top of the TV Tower for incredible views across the city.

Alternatively, why not visit Cologne, the capital of the Rhineland?

The city has over 2,000 years of history to explore and must-sees include the Roman-Germanic Museum and the iconic cathedral. There are some great visits for chocoholics and sports fans, and you can also add in a visit to Phantasialand, one of Europe’s top theme parks.
