The Hungarian State Opera House is located in central Pest. It was designed and built in Renaissance style according to the plans of Miklós Ybl, the designer, and Ferenc Erkel who conducted the inaugural concert in 1884. It is a richly decorated building and is considered one of the architect's masterpieces. The statues of Ferenc Liszt and Ferenc Erkel, outstanding contributors to Hungary's musical legacy, can be seen on either side of the risalit. Although in size and capacity it is not among the greatest, in beauty and the quality of acoustics the Budapest Opera House is considered to be amongst the best and one of the first opera houses to be built in the world.
