School trips to Barcelona

Need something bespoke?

Halsbury Sticker

Barcelona is one of our most popular school trip destinations for one simple reason – it’s full of ‘wow’ moments.

Students staring up in wonder as the light pours through the stained-glass windows, illuminating the breathtaking architecture of the Sagrada Familia.  The joy (and relief) when they successfully order a tasty treat in Spanish at La Boqueria market. The thrill of walking out onto the pitch at Camp Nou.

Always popular with students, Barcelona is endlessly exciting. A vibrant city with creativity in the air, it’s also one of the most beautiful in the world, with something to explore around almost every corner. And it works for such a wide range of subjects, from art to geography, and from business studies to Spanish.

You can stay in the heart of the action, or you might choose to base yourselves in one of the resorts along the Costa Brava, giving you the best of both worlds (with educational visits during the day, and time to chill out on the beach in the evenings).

Why visit Barcelona?

Flexibility

Barcelona is one of the most flexible destinations in Europe (in our opinion). It works for a huge variety of subjects (and that makes it a great option for a cross-curricular trip too).

That’s because there are just so many educational visits and opportunities here. That also makes it a great choice for an annual trip. You can switch it up whenever you want to make sure the trip stays fresh (which is great for staff who accompany the trip every year too).

Barcelona also offers flexibility in terms of where you stay. Now, you may well want to stay in the city, close to all the action, and we have plenty of accommodation options that will allow you to do just that.

But you could choose to stay in one of the seaside resorts along the Costa Brava. You’d have a coach to take you to all your visits (most of which may well be in Barcelona itself, but could also be in other parts of Catalonia, like Girona or Figueres) and your surroundings would be more peaceful than in the city centre (which could be very helpful for making sure everyone is properly rested).  And, when you’ve finished exploring for the day, you can chill out on the beach with your group.

Inspiration around every corner

Incredible art and architecture are almost everywhere you look in Barcelona.

Barcelona’s most famous son has to be the renowned architect Antoní Gaudí. His incredible, almost dreamlike creations pepper the streets of Barcelona and his great unfinished masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia, is a must-see on your school trip to Barcelona. Many groups also choose to visit Park Guëll (a residential park designed by Gaudí), where you can really see how the architect was inspired by nature.

Of course, you’ll see some incredible buildings by other Modernista architects too, including the Castle of the Three Dragons and the Palau de la Música Catalana by Lluís Domènech i Montaner and the Casa Amatller by Josep Puig I Cadafalch.

For art students, Gaudí is one reason to visit Barcelona, but there are so many more. This is a creative city, with a long artistic heritage and, as such, is home to some incredible museums and galleries, including the Picasso Museum, the Joan Mirò Foundation and the MNAC (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya).

Get your students talking

Although Catalonia does have its own language, everyone here is bilingual and speaks Spanish too (and they’ll only speak Spanish to your students because they’ll know that they’re not locals). So, Spanish immersion is definitely achievable in Barcelona.

Plus, visiting Barcelona will help your students understand the diversity of Spain and the Hispanosphere.

Why Visit...Park Güell?

Whatever the reason you’ve decided to visit Barcelona on a school trip, it would be almost sacrilegious to come here and not spend some time taking in some of the work of the city’s most famous son, Antoni Gaudí.
