First Snowfall of the Season Hits the Alps
The Halsbury office is currently abuzz with excitement at the news that the first snowfall has hit the Alps! The tail end of Hurricane Gonzalo, which nearly swept us all of our feet yesterday, has made its way over to continental Europe, bringing with it high winds, low temperatures and precipitation.
Our Twitter feed has been going crazy this morning with many of the ski resorts posting some stunning pictures of the snowy scenes they have been waking up to this morning. Paradiski (La Plagne and Les Arcs) and Val Thorens have been leading the way, but it is the Austrian and Swiss resorts, such as Dachstein and Wengen that are expected to see most of the snowfall, with up to 1m being predicted in Austria. It is also being reported that, with the 0˚ level down to 1200m, the snow is even settling at village level. The snow has also reached Italy, with Bardonecchia now transformed into quite the winter wonderland.
Although it is too early for this snowfall to have any real influence over the coming season, it is a real sign that winter is on its way - finally!
