School Fashion Trip to New York
A fashion school trip to New York will be completely unforgettable and is bound to leave your students with a passion for fashion!
One of the ‘Big Four’ fashion capitals of the 21st century, New York is a must for any fashion student. Strut along 5th Avenue exploring the high-end stores with amazing window displays, mingle with New York’s elite as they purchase the latest must-haves and discover the Fashion District, with the buzz of buyers running from showroom to showroom.
New York really does offer an up-close and personal experience of the fashion industry that students will love. And, of course, it also works really well as a cross-curricular school trip destination, offering exciting possibilities for politics, art, business studies, performing arts, media studies, design and technology, food technology, maths and religious studies.
Suggested Itinerary (5 days, 3 nights)
See the Fashion Walk of Fame
The Fashion Walk of Fame is the world’s first and only monument to American fashion and pays tribute to some of the most influential designers in fashion history! This is a must-see on a fashion school trip to New York.
Along 7 th Avenue (also known as Fashion Avenue), between 35 th and 40 th Streets, the Fashion Walk of Fame consists of 28 plaques paying tribute to some of America’s greatest designers.
What’s really great is that the plaques actually tell you a little bit about the designer and why they’re worthy of such an honour. There are, of course, some very famous names that need no introduction, but some lesser known designers are featured too.
Did you know?
The Fashion Walk of Fame is, rather fittingly, located in the Garment District, an area that’s been famous for fashion manufacturing and design since the early 1930s.
Visit the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology
One of a select group of prestigious fashion museums, the Museum at FIT is famous for its award-winning exhibitions!
The museum’s permanent collection includes 50,000 garments and accessories, some of which date as far back as the 18 th century. And many of the world’s most influential designers are represented, including Chanel, Dior and Balenciaga.
The exhibition is rotated every six months, but always represents 250 years of fashion, making this a fascinating visit to include in your fashion school trip to New York.
Did you know?
The Museum features a gallery dedicated to student and faculty exhibitions, which is a great opportunity to see the work of some of the fashion designers of the future and could be really inspiring for your students to see!
Take the TV and movie locations tour
See more than 60 locations around New York familiar to you from both the big and small screen!
New York is said to be the most filmed city in the world and many of its landmarks will be familiar to your students, making this a really exciting inclusion in your school trip to New York.
Some of the highlights on the tour include Friends locations, the Ghostbusters firehouse and McGee’s pub, which was the inspiration for MacLaren’s in How I Met Your Mother.
Did you know?
The *Ghostbusters* base is an active firehouse in Tribeca – Hook and Ladder 8. The firefighters stationed here were among the first to react to the September 11 th terrorist attacks.
