Halsbury's Safety Management System

Your safety is our number one priority and as an Assured Member of the School Travel Forum (STF), we’ve created and implemented a detailed Safety Management System.

Your safety is our number one priority.

And as an Assured Member of the School Travel Forum (STF), we’ve created and implemented a detailed Safety Management System.

In a nutshell, this is your reassurance that we’ve done everything we can to make sure your group is safe while on a school trip organised by us.

It can also form part of your risk assessment.

How do we make sure your group is safe on one of our trips?

  • We take all reasonable measures to reduce the risk of accidents.
  • We maintain a Safety Management System in line with DCFS guidance, which includes a formal annual verification by a suitably qualified external expert (currently Argent, the UK’s leading health and safety consultancy specialising in travel).
  • We make sure that our products and services comply (wherever applicable) with the current local, national and/or international standards.
  • We maintain accurate and up-to-date records of health and safety audits as they’re carried out by appropriately qualified staff.
  • We actively promote a positive health and safety culture (including continual assessment and improvement of operational health and safety standards among our staff, our clients and our supplier organisations worldwide).
  • We train our staff annually using both internal and external qualified experts so that they can give informed and appropriate advice, make informed decisions and carry out effective assessments of all our suppliers.
  • We make sure all our staff are trained to respond quickly and effectively to any information which may jeopardise our Safety Management System or constitute an emergency.
  • We carry out risk assessments of accommodation, transport and other prepaid services.
  • We actively monitor the performance of accommodation and transport, and actively seek feedback from groups travelling to our various resorts and destinations.
  • And we review our Safety Management System on an annual basis and train staff in any changes.

What will you find in our Safety Management System?

In our Safety Management System, you’ll find:

  • Information on the policies and procedures we’ve put in place to make sure all the trips we operate are done so as safely as possible.
  • An explanation of how to make sure all the accommodation and transport we use are clean, fit for purpose and comply with the local and national standards of the country it’s operated in.
  • Confirmation that we’re complying with requirements for inclusive tours as per the UK Package Travel and Linked Arrangements Regulations 2018.
  • Information on how we make sure our tours are safe and that all our suppliers have adopted good working practices.
  • An explanation of the measures we take to monitor and review the standards we expect our suppliers to maintain.
  • Information on how our staff meet their responsibilities set out within the Safety Management System.
  • Clarification on how we deal with accident investigation, ‘near miss’ events and incident reporting.
  • Information on how we assist you – i.e. providing inspection visits and safety information before you travel.

  • Information on how we manage safety on visits and activities.
