The Champs-Élysées is the most prestigious avenue in Paris, its cinemas, cafés and luxury shops make it one of the most famous streets in the world. In addition, with rents as high as £750,000 a year for 100 m² of space, it is the most expensive street in Europe. The name refers to the Elysian Fields, the place of the blessed in Greek mythology. The Champs-Élysées is known in France as 'La plus belle avenue du monde' ("The most beautiful avenue in the world").
