Former Olympic resort
Superb accommodation with doorstep skiing
Totally revamped to host the 2006 Olympics, Bardonecchia is now a top-class ski resort. A school ski trip to Bardonecchia offers excellent facilities at a high-altitude ski resort, without all the hustle and bustle of some other alpine resorts. The town, on the French-Italian border, is not a purpose-built ski resort, so it has retained its alpine charm. Plus, Bardonecchia boasts the friendly, tranquil atmosphere you would expect to find in a historic mountain village, which really suits the needs of school ski groups. Bardonecchia has an excellent snow record and, as the slopes are predominantly north-facing, snow cover is consistently conserved.
Starting at 1300m, this resort is higher than many others, extending up to 2750m. Most of the skiing is above 1500m, which is the height beginners can expect to start with. There is good progression from the beginner slopes to the intermediate level, and from there on to the more advanced slopes, so skiers/boarders of all abilities tends to improve quickly in Bardonecchia. There's an exciting snowpark too, with different zones including a number of rails, jibs and jumps that your snowboarders will love! Perhaps the greatest thing about a school ski trip to Bardonecchia is that you’ll return home satisfied that your students have skied as much of the mountain as they are capable of.
We had an excellent time on this year's ski trip to Bardonecchia. Location: We found the short walk from our hotel to the slopes excellent for our party; it took no longer than 10 mins to get kitted up and on to the slopes. We were also a short walk from the local town where students had the opportunity to talk to locals and buy gifts. It was an incredibly beautiful location. The Hotel: the hotel really suited our school. There was plenty of things to keep both staff and students occupied; swimming pool (at a charge), pool tables, table tennis tables, gym, disco, karaoke and social lounge areas, to name a few. The Food: The food was a buffet-style but was fantastic...lots of pasta (but something different everyday) and lots of other salad/ quiches and vegetable options. Staff get free wine in the restaurant during lunch and dinner. The Skiing: The slopes have lots of blue and red runs and are great for beginner and intermediate groups. The meeting point was spacious and right next to a bar - which serves the best thick hot chocolate. There is also an awesome creperie near the ski hire shop- that was a favourite place for us to visit at the end of a day's skiing. Boot Room Storage: We had lockers that we were able to stor our boots/ skis and poles in overnight and over lunch - this was great as it meant the studetns weren't having to walk to the hotel in their gear and back again. Medical issues: There is a private medical centre 10 minutes from the hotel and they were fantastic with dealing with the 2 minor injuries that we had. The best thing about our stay were our fabulous reps, Edit and Francesco - they did an amazing job of making our stay in Italy an enjoyable and easy one. They were friendly and helpful and were always ensuring that our students and staff were well organised and happy. Thank you so much!!!
