Skiing in Obertauern

Obertauern is the highest ski resort in the state of Salzburg surrounded by the spectacular peaks of the Tauern range. Skiing starts at 1600m, so snow cover is guaranteed from the middle of November until the beginning of May.  Obertauern is a fantastic choice for a school ski trip because the variety of terrain makes it great for progression. There are excellent nursery slopes, including a high-altitude beginner area and easy runs that will take them from the top back into the valley. For intermediates, the challenge builds the higher you go and those with a good intermediate level should be able to tackle a circuit of the whole area. And there are steeper runs too for the more advanced skiers. They also have a range of fun slopes, photo points, timed race courses and speed check zones. You can opt to upgrade your ski pass to include the whole of the Oberlungau region, which covers 290km of piste. For skiers who like to travel, Obertauern is part of a ski circuit, which is best tackled in an anti-clockwise direction that can also be completed on blue slopes at a lower altitude.
