Located high up in the Oisans mountain range, Les 2 Alpes is famous as the home of the largest skiable glacier in Europe, providing excellent snow conditions – it is even possible to ski here during the summer!
Les 2 Alpes is a great choice for your next school ski trip to France as it offers learners a fantastic skiing experience. Somewhat of an ‘upside-down’ resort, much of the easier skiing is actually located at higher altitude, giving students the rare opportunity to learn to ski in truly spectacular surroundings. The runs on the resort’s glacier are relatively wide and easy, which is, again, great for learners to get a taste of glacier skiing.
Previously, there was a downside to this in that it could be difficult to get back down to the resort after a day’s skiing, as there was a limited choice of tricky reds and blacks, an overcrowded green or the gondola. From December 2015, all this will change with the opening of the Jandri 1, a new blue run. This will link up to some of the resort’s other blues, opening up 2,000m of vertical descent to beginners and less experienced or confident skiers.
Les 2 Alpes is also a fantastic choice for groups with snowboarders, as the resort boasts a renowned snowpark complete with halfpipe, kickers, grinding rails and boardercross courses.
When arranging a school ski trip, as well as considering the suitability of the resort in terms of your group’s skiing ability, it is also worth considering the availability and variety of aprè-ski activities. Les 2 Alpes offers an excellent range of après-ski activities, making it suitable for students of all ages. Some typical examples of activities available in the area include sledging, ice skating, snowshoeing, swimming and bowling. There is also an ice cave to explore and an alpine rollercoaster for the thrillseekers amongst you.
