Further information on your school trip travel insurance, including the insurance statement and FAQs.
When planning your school trip, it’s vital that you arrange suitable travel insurance.
We can provide you with comprehensive school travel insurance that, as well as the usual cover also includes individual Covid cover.
What does our travel insurance cover?
Our travel insurance provides cover for all the usual things, such as medical expenses should a member of the group fall ill or be injured on the trip, loss of money or belongings, travel delay, missed departure and cancellation, curtailment or change of itinerary. For further details on what’s covered, please see the insurance statements below.
And the policy also covers reasonable additional costs to account for a family member to come across or a group leader/teacher to stay with the individual.

Frequently Asked Questions
Group travel insurance is included as standard and is not a separate cost that we can deduct from the price of your trip.
Individuals cannot opt out of the policy, as Aviva are providing cover for the entire group, i.e. either the whole group is covered by Aviva or the entire group opts out.
Cover begins from the moment that the booking is made and ends when the group returns to the school or the individual's home (whichever comes first).
GHICs do not provide comprehensive medical cover and so we strongly advise that school trip travel insurance is also arranged.
Aviva do not require the declaration of any pre-existing medical conditions. The only exclusion for medical conditions is if the individual is travelling against the advice of a medical practitioner. If you are unsure if you should be travelling, please contact your doctor/consultant/practitioner for confirmation.
Aviva do not need to be informed unless the individual is travelling against medical advice. The policy's only exclusion for medical conditions is if the individual is travelling against the advice of a medical practitioner. If you are unsure whether you should be travelling, please contact your doctor/consultant/practitioner for confirmation.
As Aviva are covering the group as a whole, they do not need to be informed of any changes to members and cover automatically extends to replacements.
The insurance policy will cover the reasonable travel and accommodation costs of a replacement teacher in this scenario. Please ensure that you contact Aviva/CEGA before any arrangements are made.
The policy does not cover the cost of hiring substitute teachers who may be required for any reason.
The covid cancellation cover under the policy is for each specific individual, so cancellation cover is only in place for those who comply with the covid notes on page 1 of the policy.
Aviva do not require any individual to be vaccinated. However, please note that if you are not vaccinated and are refused entry due to being unable to fulfil entry requirements, then there is no cover under the school travel insurance policy.
Please contact Aviva/CEGA on the emergency contact number provided on the Emergency Assistance card as soon as possible.
With regards to Covid-19, the policy will offer cover in the following circumstances:
- The insured person being admitted to hospital due to a positive Covid-19 test up to 28 days before the commencement of their Insured Journey
- The insured person being diagnosed by a Qualified Medical Practitioner as having tested positive with Covid-19 up to 14 days before the commencement of their insured journey
- The insured person is contacted by a representative of the UK Government’s Test and Trace service due to the probability of having contracted COVID-19, and are instructed to self-isolate for a period of time which prevents the insured person from the commencement of their insured journey
The policy also covers reasonable additional costs to account for a family member to come across or a group leader/teacher to stay with the individual, subject to prior authorisation by Aviva/CEGA.
Fear of covid (or any other incident) is not covered by the insurance policy.
Cover remains in place in this scenario.
While Aviva do not request a specific type of test, the recommendation is to try to adhere to the standards that were being asked during the main Covid period, i.e. a PCR or LFT. This can come from one of the high street stores that sell these tests. We would recommend that you take a picture of the positive test, including the serial number and, if possible, the test’s terms and conditions or the packaging, so that Aviva have evidence of the test brand.
As with any proof of illness, the cost/burden falls to the individual who is providing the proof. For example, if you contract norovirus, you would require a doctor’s note as evidence of illness, and the individual cancelling would bear the cost of the doctor’s note. Therefore, if a member of the group contracts Covid-19 and needs to cancel, they must bear the cost of the test and this is not recoverable from Aviva, whether the result is positive or negative.
