Spotlight on...Madonna di Campiglio

One of our favourite resorts, Madonna di Campiglio is ideal for a school ski trip and even won the ‘Best Ski Resort’ category at last year’s School Travel Awards.

Set in the spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Brenta Dolomites, Madonna di Campiglio is nicknamed the ‘Queen of Snow’ thanks to its elegance and regal links – this resort was visited by Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife ‘Sissi’, and was one of the most popular Alpine resorts of the Habsburg Empire.

Spotlight on...Madonna di Campiglio

Madonna di Campiglio still celebrates its royal links with an annual Habsburg Carnival and the Emperor’s Great Ball, and still attracts wealthy Italians every weekend during the season.

With a pedestrianised village centre, and a more refined après-ski culture, this is a very safe resort for school children, which is one of the reasons why it’s so popular with our school groups.

Madonna also offers a good variety of slopes. For beginners, the Campo Carlo Magno beginners’ area will allow them to find their feet, before progressing on to the blues at Pradalgo. For intermediates, there are more challenging runs both in Madonna and in Pinzolo, which is just a 16-minute gondola ride away. Your pass will also cover the nearby resort of Folgarida-Marilleva.

For the experts, the 3-Tre piste is one not to be missed. It begins as a red, before turning into a steep black as it becomes the famous Canalone Miramonti, a World Cup slalom course!

Like all Italian resorts, your group will find a warm welcome awaiting them in Madonna di Campiglio. And the food is all very child-friendly, which is important when on such an active trip – it’s good to know that everyone will be sufficiently nourished!

It’s also good to know that there are plenty of exciting après-ski activities available in the area, so your group will be entertained even when the skiing is finished. You can choose from ice skating, swimming, snowshoeing and even dog sledding!
