The setting for Bond’s alpine retreat is the spectacular resort of Sölden. The Tirolean resort is one of our favourites here at Halsbury Ski, as it really is a playground for lovers of snowsports, providing fantastic variety for school ski trips.
From the Big 3 (three mountains higher than 3,000m) to the 33 state-of-the-art ski lifts and gondolas, Sölden offers an unforgettable skiing experience. What really drew the producers to this winter wonderland, however, was the iconic Ice Q restaurant. The breathtaking glass façade offers incredible views from the summit of Gaislachkogl, at an altitude of 3,048m.
It is here that Bond meets his major love interest, played by Léa Seydoux. What ensues is a spectacular chase down the mountain, which is certain to become one of the film’s most memorable scenes.
Its inclusion in the film is somewhat of a boon for the resort, as well as the rest of the Austrian Tirol, as past Bond films have made stars of previous alpine settings. There is real hope that the film will encourage more people to visit Sölden and the other ski areas of the Austrian Tirol which, although gaining in popularity, are still somewhat overlooked by British skiers and snowboarders.
