Get yourself ski fit

It’s a great idea to start an exercise regime in the months leading up to the new season, ideally focusing on your endurance, strength and flexibility.

Check out our ‘How to get fit for skiing’ infographic for tips - you’ll really see the difference on the slopes and you’ll be less likely to injure yourself.

And why not get your students involved too by setting a weekly exercise challenge in the lead up to your trip?

Build your confidence with a visit to your local indoor or dry ski slope

If you’ve not been skiing for a couple of years and you’re feeling a little nervous about getting back out on the slopes, a visit to your local ski centre could be a great way to build your confidence back up.

You could even book yourself a few lessons to develop your technique.

Then when you’re out on the slopes you’ll be ready to tackle some of the more challenging slopes and really make the most of your time in the mountains.

Make sure your skis are in tip top condition

If you’re lucky enough to own your own skis, it’s a good idea to get them serviced regularly.

Hard snow, icy conditions and rocks can leave your skis with chips or scrapes that need patching up.

You’ll really notice the difference when you’re out on the slopes, as your edges will grip better and they’ll glide more smoothly across the piste.

If you find your skis or board are in relatively good condition then it’s still worthwhile giving them a good wax.

You’ll also want to ensure your bindings are on the correct settings, which is really important for avoiding injuries.

Refresh your knowledge of the Skiway Code

If you’re heading out with a group of students then it’s really important to ensure everyone is aware of the rules to ensure they stay safe on the slopes.

We’ve put together a video demonstrating the rules as set out on in the Skiway Code.

Share it with your students on your trip Twitter account or you could show it at your next parents evening.

Check you’ve got all the right clothing and equipment

Make sure you get all your clothing and equipment out of storage at least a few weeks before you’re due to travel.

You might find you’ve lost a glove or there’s a tear in your jacket that you’ve forgotten about.

We also have a packing checklist that you can share with students and parents to make sure they have everything they need to stay warm and protected on the slopes.
