Alpine quality at Bulgarian prices
Arranging a school ski trip to Bansko could mean that more of your students are able to join you, as it offers alpine quality for low prices. Located at the foot of the beautiful Pirin Mountains, Bansko is a charming town which has seen heavy investment turn it into a superb ski centre. After a whopping 30 million Euros was ploughed into the project, the area really has become something special, with improved snow making, new lifts and excellent piste maintenance. And the fairy tale town centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site too. This is also Bulgaria’s number one resort for après-ski, so when you’re not skiing, why not sample the local cuisine, or go ice skating or bowling?
The ski season at Bansko runs from December to May and the snow coverage over these months is fantastic. Where necessary, it’s supplemented by 90% snow cannon coverage. The local ski schools offer excellent tuition for beginners. For intermediates, there’s a good choice of blues and reds. The longest run is an incredible 16km from the top of Todorka Peak to the base of the station, and it’s certainly manageable for confident novices. Bansko also has a reputation for extreme skiing, with some challenging black runs.
Brilliant resort for beginners.
