Halsbury Travel on Channel 5 Tonight at 8pm

We’re really excited that we’re making our television debut in helping out on Channel 5’s Cowboy Traders which will air tonight at 8pm. Don't worry, we're not the ones under investigation. We’ve promised Channel 5 we won’t spoil the programme by telling you what happens before it’s transmitted. What we can say is that we’re involved – and here’s the quote from Ricochet, who produce the programme.

"We're really grateful to Halsbury for all their involvement and generosity"

Please read Channel 5’s preview of the programme and we will feature full details of our involvement along with a link to view the programme on Friday 28th after it has been broadcast on Thursday evening.

Channel 5 Preview

For a lot of children the opportunity to go abroad with their school is a once in a lifetime experience. But what should be a holiday to remember can fast become a nightmare you’d rather forget when you’re unknowingly dealing with a rogue trader.

Dom Littlewood and Melinda Messenger investigate a company who took thousands of pounds from schools and parents for kids' skiing holidays that never took place.

In 2011 52 children from Meole Brace school in Shrewsbury were eagerly awaiting their bi annual ski trip. By the end of January 2011 the company organising it had received full payment for the Easter getaway. But less than two weeks before the holiday of a lifetime Meole Brace school discovered that it looked like their trip had never been booked. After receiving a tip off from one of the company’s reps, they phoned the hotel they were due to be staying at, only to discover that not only were they not booked in, the hotel was actually closed on the dates they were supposed to be going.

To top it off their flights hadn’t been booked and the school felt they had no choice but to cancel the trip, leaving staff and kids devastated. And with no refund on offer from the company, they also footed the bill to reimburse the parents the £40,000 they’d paid for the trip.

Melinda has the unenviable task of trying to give the Meole Brace kids the skiing holiday they missed – with no budget to pay for it. Meanwhile Dom finds a string of schools with complaints about a travel company, and meets some ex-employees of the company who are less than complimentary about their former boss. Dom's investigations take him to Switzerland, where he discovers that it is not just UK schools who have been left out of pocket. And a little bit of subterfuge is needed before Dom can finally catch up with the company boss responsible.
