End of Season Report 2017/1809/04/2018 11:29:48
And what a season 2017/18 has been!
There was loads of snow!
The season really started with a bang as the Alps enjoyed widespread snowfall resulting in good cover almost everywhere.
In some areas, like Prato Nevoso, the snowfall was quite extraordinary – in the first week of November, the resort received up to 1m of snow in just 24 hours!
The snowfall in November was a vast improvement on the previous season. Although there was good snowfall in early November 2016, this was limited to the north-western Alps. This year, there was good cover at altitude across the Alps.
In 2016, the promising snowfall at the start of the season was followed by what can only be described as a drought. A distinct lack of snow between the end of November and early January left everyone extremely concerned. However, the entire ski industry breathed a sigh of relief this year when the snow just kept on coming.
In fact, the snowfall has been fairly consistent throughout the season, right through to Easter, with many enjoying some of the best late-season conditions we’ve ever seen!
There was loads to inspire the next generation!
Of course, we also had the incredible spectacles that were the Winter Olympics and Paralympics! It was fantastic to see snow sports shine on the world stage and we hope that they caught the imaginations of the next generation!
In the Winter Olympics, Team GB managed their best-ever medal haul with 5 – 4 bronze and 1 gold!
GB’s Paralympians also enjoyed incredible success, bringing home seven medals. This was their best medal haul since 1984!
One of our fave resorts won an award!
We were delighted when Madonna di Campiglio, one of our favourite resorts, won the gong for ‘Best Ski Resort’ at the School Travel Awards. The category was sponsored by Halsbury Ski, but voted for by teachers, so it seems that we’re not the only ones that feel this beautiful resort is ideal for school groups!
We gave away some incredible prizes!
In the lead up to the season, we ran a four-week competition over on Twitter, giving away some exciting ski goodies – touchscreen glove liners, a Beardski, Oakley goggles and a GoPro!
And we took some of you to enjoy some of our best ski resorts!
We usually run two inspection visits each season, and this one was no different. Over the new year period we took a number of Group Leaders, as well as their friends and family, to the incredible Italian resort of Sestriere.
Apart from giving us another excuse to get out to the slopes, the inspection visits also give us the opportunity to get to know Group Leaders and to learn more about what they’re looking for when it comes to school ski trips, giving us some great ideas to help us to continue to improve our service.
They’re often our highlight of the season and, by all accounts, the Group Leaders who attend enjoy them just as much as we do!
We’ve completely revamped our brochure!
In fact, it’s now more of a guide than a brochure. As you can view all the resort information on our website (and most of you prefer to do so), we’ve focused more on the service we provide you with, what’s included, and how we’ll help you make your next school ski trip the best yet!
What have you been saying about this season?
This was a fantastic ski trip. Everything about the week was brilliant. We will definitely go back to this resort and hotel again. Well done Halsbury. Ysgol Bryn Elian, Madonna di Campiglio, March 2018
The trip was very well organised from day one of booking. The Halsbury rep was very good. Madesimo as a ski area was amazing. Good snow. Good ski instructors. The hotel and the village had everything we needed and using the games area (under the hotel) for a movie night, a disco night and an area to chill in after skiing was brilliant. The Roche School, Madesimo, March 2018
I just wanted to write and let you know we had a fantastic week in Claviere last week. The resort was perfect, the snow conditions excellent and the accommodation and welcome at the Miramonte from our rep Francesca was great. All the staff and pupils had an amazing time and arrived home in one piece. Thanks again for your support and organisation of this year’s trip. I look forward to travelling with you again soon. Lawn Manor Academy, Claviere, February 2018

We absolutely loved our trip! The snow was incredible and the tuition was pitched well. Bansko is a fantastic resort, perfect for beginner skiers. We had a fantastic trip and we are already looking forward to another year in Bansko with Halsbury Ski! Cirencester Kingshill School, Bansko, February 2018
