Why visit Cantabria?

Discover Green Spain

Part of the area known as Green Spain, between the Bay of Biscay and the Cantabrian Mountains, your school trip to Cantabria is the opportunity for your students to visit an area of Spain they’re unlikely to have visited before.

Green Spain is known as such because of its famously lush vegetation. The landscape here is more reminiscent of Ireland and the west coast of France than the rest of Spain, with beech and oak the most common tree species here.

As you can imagine, the produce here is incredible and even the seafood is among the best in the country. So, if you’re keen for your students to enjoy some authentic Spanish cuisine, Cantabria is the perfect setting for your school trip.

Explore Santander

Santander is the capital of Cantabria. An ancient port city, Santander isn’t one of Spain’s most beautiful cities, as much of the centre was destroyed in a huge fire in 1941.

However, it does have plenty of character, as well as some incredible city beaches that make it a very popular and sophisticated summer resort for Spaniards.

Most of our groups stay in the lovely seaside resort of Suances, just outside of Santander. This is a fantastic base for a school trip, as you’ll be within easy reach of Santander and Bilbao, as well as the region’s many other attractions.

Experience Spanish history

The coastal area of Cantabria is home to no less than 18 prehistoric caves, where you’ll find incredibly well-preserved Palaeolithic cave art.

The most famous example of this is at Altamira, but most of our groups prefer El Castillo, where the paintings are more than 35,000 years old!
