To commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day 2019, we created a FREE lesson plan designed around that year's theme - 'Torn from Home'.
Including a number of discussion points, the lesson plan looks at the effects of being displaced during genocides such as the Holocaust.
It will ask your students to think of what 'home' means to them, and what the effect would be on them should it be taken from them forcibly.
Your students will be encouraged to think about the reasons someone would have for leaving home, and why some people chose to leave their homes at the very beginning of Nazi rule in Germany, while others remained.
And it asks them to think about why the Nazis would want to forcibly remove Jews from their homes and place them in ghettos.
They’ll be encouraged to consider whether hiding places can ever be considered home, even if people are hidden there for years.
And they’ll also be encouraged to think about those who survived the Holocaust, but were displaced across Europe.
