Ski Films to Watch This Summer

As summer gets into full swing, winter seems a long time coming. But if you’re missing the slopes (like us!), here are some ski films that could help to fill the void:

James Bond

- The Spy Who Loved Me

- Spectre

Everyone’s favourite spy has hit the slopes on several occasions and has shown himself to be a pretty keen skier.

The Spy Who Loved Me features a particularly memorable sequence in which Roger Moore’s Bond evades assassins in a spectacular downhill chase (where he shoots one of them with his ski pole!), before skiing off a cliff, casually kicking off his skis and opening his Union Jack parachute.

And, more recently, Sölden, one of our favourite resorts, was the setting for some of the action in Spectre – the Ice Q Restaurant stood in for the fictional Hoffler Klinik.

Eddie the Eagle

If Bond is a little heavy going for you, why not try the lighter biographical comedy-drama that is Eddie the Eagle?

Starring Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman, the film tells the (somewhat fictionalised) story of Eddie ‘The Eagle’ who was the first Brit to compete in Olympic ski jumping for 60 years at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.

Chalet Girl

You really can’t put together a list of ski films without including this cheesefest. This romcom stars The Theory of Everything’s Felicity Jones and Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick. It follows a girl down on her luck, who takes a job as a chalet girl, learns to snowboard and eventually wins a snowboarding competition.

The Art of Flight

If you need a more serious snowsports fix, The Art of Flight is a great watch. Following influential snowboarder Travis Rice and friends, the cinematography is epic, the locations are epic and the tricks are…well, epic!

Lindsey Vonn: The Climb

And if it’s inspiration you need, then Lindsey Vonn: The Climb offers it in buckets. This documentary follows Vonn’s comeback from two major knee surgeries. Her physical and mental struggles are laid bare as we follow her two-year journey back to the top, which included missing out on the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Happy watching! And don’t forget to get a head start on your next school ski trip!
