Iceland - Latest Travel Advice

We have been and continue to closely monitor the situation and any disruption caused by the recent eruption of the Grimsvotn volcano on the 21st of May 2011. The eruption subsequently caused the closure of the Icelandic airspace and the closure of Keflavik airport on Sunday the 22nd of May. At present there are no restrictions on travel from the UK to European destinations and no predictions as to whether any further travel disruption will be caused in the near future. A spokesman from the Met office, which runs Europe’s Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre, has said that the changeable weather has made forecasts very uncertain and therefore made it much more difficult to predict whether any disruption may be caused. We will continue to monitor the advice from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and will keep this page up-to-date with the latest developments. For more information please visit the FCO website.

Update 24/05/2011:

We are continuing to monitor the situation and at present none of our groups are currently being affected. As volcanic ash cloud situations can quickly change we are continuing to keep in touch with our airline partners and will keep this page up-to-date with the latest developments.

Update 25/05/2011:

The advice, at present, being given by ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents) is:

"Given the current predictions it is anticipated that normal operations will resume at UK airports currently affected and normal operations should apply for Wednesday 25th and possibly the morning of Thursday 26th May"

We will continue to liaise with our groups travelling over the next few days and we will keep this page up-to-date with the latest developments.
