A Pre-Christmas Visit to Sestriere

We visited Sestriere just before Christmas, to check out what the resort offers for school ski groups. We were incredibly impressed by just how much there is to do, both on and off the slopes!

I was lucky enough to visit Sestriere from 18th – 22nd December with some of our group leaders.

It’s a resort that we send a lot of school groups to every year and the visit gave me a great insight into how well it works for such groups.

On arrival, we ventured into the city of Turin, which is approximately two hours drive from the resort. We visited a Christmas market, where they had some lovely gifts and delicious food on the stalls – great for some last-minute Christmas shopping!

We then enjoyed a great lunch in a local restaurant just 15 minutes walk from the city centre. This was a brilliant opportunity to get to know all the group leaders and their friends and family, before we headed off to the resort.

If you’re looking for a cheap but tasty lunch once you’re in Sestriere by the way, I strongly recommend checking out one of the local pizzerias. You can get a pizza for less than €8 – great value for money!

For beginners, the blue slopes are nice and wide. And the instructors are all really helpful too, with most speaking good English. In fact, I was impressed with how friendly and approachable all the resort staff were!

The hotel did allow myself and my colleagues in to have a sneak preview of the renovations in the white tower and it certainly looks much more modern than when we visited a few years ago. There’s a great games room, with a number of machines and a football table. There’s also a little shop which sells a range of clothing and accessories.

A Pre-Christmas Visit to Sestriere

My visit to Sestriere has really reminded me what a great ski resort it is, especially for school groups. There’s plenty to do both on and off the slopes! There are fantastic little restaurants, great shops selling everything from ski equipment to chocolate and, of course, plenty of photo opportunities!
