Mgarr Second World War Shelter

The Mgarr shelter is one of the largest undergound locations of its kind in Malta reaching a depth of 12 m and extending to an overall length of over 255m. This shelter was dug by hand and was recently restored. It was used during the Second World War in order for families to shelter when the enemy would attack Malta. It’s quite impressive as one can also see the various chambers where these people would spend long hours in this underground maze which served as their home. This is an interesting experience but a reminder of a life that no one would ever want to return again.
