Spring has sprung (finally!), so we’ve chosen our venue of the month to celebrate this fact – Delft Market Square.
At this time of year, the tulip fields of the Netherlands burst into colour, making it a wonderful time to visit our neighbours across the North Sea!
There are plenty of fantastic venues to choose from in the Netherlands, but one of our favourites, and a great option in the spring and summer, is Delft Market Square.
Delft is a lovely town located south of Amsterdam, between the Hague and Rotterdam, and not far from the Hook of Holland. It’s considered one of the prettiest towns in the Netherlands and is famous both for its Delftware pottery and as an important centre of the Dutch Golden Age.
If you’re an art fan, you may already be familiar with Delft, which was often the backdrop in local artist Johannes Vermeer’s works of art. All this makes it a great choice for giving your group a taste of Dutch culture.
The venue itself, Delft Market Square, is right in the centre of the town and is famous for its vibrant atmosphere. The town hall (Stadthuis) and the town’s spectacular Nieuwe Kerk, where several members of the Dutch royal family have been laid to rest (including William of Orange), are both located on this square, which really is the beating heart of the town.
Your band will love the opportunity to perform here, where, particularly during the summer months, a good audience is pretty much guaranteed. We recommend a light and modern repertoire for this venue – something to make the audience smile and even dance or sing along is perfect!
