Antoni Gaudi's unique, awe-inspiring cathedral continues to grow almost organically, like a medieval cathedral. Funded by donations from the general public, this is the world's most beautiful building site! The museum tells the story of Gaudi, the cathedral and its near-destruction during the Spanish Civil War.
Intended as a housing development that never quite took off, Parc Guell is an urban park in a northern suburb of Barcelona. Another of Gaudi's creations, it's full of the striking, challenging shapes of the artists architecture. A visit not to be missed when in the Catalan capital.
Home to FC Barcelona, a visit to the Nou Camp stadium includes a tour of the stadium itself, with a chance to walk out onto the pitch, as well as a visit to the museum which charts the team's history.
Picasso lived in Barcelona on various occasions as a young man, and the museum houses important pieces from this formative period in his career at the turn of the century; some of which were donated by Picasso himself. The museum, Barcelona's most visited, also hosts temporary exhibitions of Picasso's work and that of other artists of his era.
Currently housing approximately 15,000 works - the earliest created when he was just 8 years old - this museum is well worth a visit to see the art of this prolific Catalan artist. The building, designed by Miro's close friend Josep Lluis Sert, includes a unique roof terrace, allow some of Miro's sculptures to be exhibited in the open air.
La Boqueria food market in Barcelona is one of the best food markets in Europe. It is not only a market to come and buy from, but also a place to simply enjoy the pleasure of wandering around and taking in the atmosphere.
Visit this amazing Art Nouveau building to see how delicious pastries are made at this Patisserie. Visitors will also get to taste a delicious treat at the end of the visit.
This building is another Gaudi creation, taking its name from the rippling stone curves of its façade. One floor is now a small museum dedicated to Gaudi's life and work, which is well worth a visit.
