This week is Earth Science Week, the perfect time to demonstrate to your geography students the wide variety of career options that the subject could open up for them.
Earth Science Week is celebrated every year and is a time to reflect on the sciences that allow us to understand our planet, such as geography, geology, geophysics, ecology, hydrology and glaciology, to name but a few! Celebrating Earth Science Week in school provides the perfect opportunity to open up a discussion with your students as to the various careers that studying geography could open up for them.
This year, the theme for Earth Science Week is ‘Geological Time’. This is apt for two reasons: firstly, 2015 marks the 200th anniversary of the publication of William Smith’s ‘Geological Map of England and Wales’; secondly, the Geological Society have designated 2015 the ‘Year of Mud’, in celebration of all that mud can tell us about the Earth’s history.
We offer a couple of destinations for school geography trips that are suitable for groups also interested in geology, such as Iceland and the Bay of Naples.
If you are interested in these, or any of our other school geography trips, please do not hesitate to contact our experienced and knowledgeable team of school travel specialists.
