2014 will mark 100 years since the outbreak of the First World War and the government have recently announced that they are planning to commit over £50 million to the centenary commemorations. £5.3 million will be used to enable two students and one teacher from each school to visit the battlefields and commemorate the soldiers that lost their lives. The battlefields trip is part of an educational programme that the government believes will ‘create an enduring legacy for generations to come.'
