Show MapNicknamed the Sistine Chapel of Stone Age art, the rock-art in the caves of Altamira is so well preserved and of such a high standard that it was initially thought to be faked when it was discovered in 1879. The black and ochre paintings of horses, deer and bison are still breathtakingly beautiful.
