The Centre de Documentatio i Museu Textil in Terrassa was founded in 1946 by Josep Biosca, the owner of the set of textiles, clothing and religious raiment which was to constitute the Museum’s initial collection. Shortly after its founding, the centre was reorganized in such a way as to enable its management by a consortium formed of the Municipality of Terrassa and the Provincial Council of Barcellona. The Terrassa Documentation Centre and Textile Museum specializes in the conservation, study and promotion of textiles and focuses on three main areas of action: documentary research; the exhibition, conservation and restoration of textiles; and specialized training.
One of the most interesting projects implemented by Terrassa Documentation Centre over the last few years has been the progressive digitalization of its enormous textile and documentary heritage. Indeed, its IMATEX archive currently includes approximately 15,000 images of textiles supported by relative technical and stylistic information and dates.
