Is Winter Here Already?15/11/2016 11:40:36
November has so far been a fantastic month…if you’re a skier. At the beginning of the month, the snow started to fall across the Alps and it’s continued to do so throughout the month.
If you’re on Twitter, you’ve no doubt been as excited as us to see the huge number of snowy pics being posted!
The snowfall across the Alps is great news for skiers, primarily because it has been across the Alps and has even been falling at valley level. There’s now been enough snow to secure a good base at 1800m and above.
After two, frankly, dismal years for early season snow, this is a massive relief for both skiers and the ski industry. In fact, in the north western Alps, this is the best November for twenty years!
A host of resorts are already open in Austria, while some in France have been able to open early at the weekends thanks to the favourable conditions. Wengen, in Switzerland, is set to open this weekend, And even more are set to join them over the coming weeks!
The weather in the Alps this week is currently a little milder, but with forecasters predicting more snow to come over the weekend, it looks like it could be shaping up to be a pretty exciting season!
