School Primary Languages day Trip to Opal Coast
With visits less than one hour away from Calais, the Opal Coast region is the perfect destination for younger groups. Take your pupils to a chocolate factory, a local bakery, the Bagatelle theme park, Nausicaa National Sea Centre, a trip to the seaside or experience the atmosphere at one of the local markets.
Make it a one day school trip, or stay for a couple of days to really give your pupils the opportunity to explore and practise their French.

The Nausicaa Sea-World museum seeks to educate children about the marine environment, man's impact upon it and why it is important that marine life should be protected. Tropical lagoons, sea lion enclosures, shark tanks and affectionate stingrays are all very popular with children and school groups.
Watch how speciality pancakes are made from the basic ingredients and help to produce them. Finish your visit by enjoying your own pancake with jam or chocolate sauce accompanied by an orange juice! You will also have the opportunity to watch the traditional french "Patissiers" work the marzipan... you may even leave with a marzipan souvenir for your school!
This traditional family-owned bakery is well worth a visit. You will have the chance to watch a baker at work in the original part of the bakery and some self-practice too. To conclude your visit, you will be able to sample fresh baguettes and croissants.
Your visit to this snail farm will begin with a tour where you will learn interesting facts about the snails as well as being able to hold one to see up close. This is followed by a slideshow with an explanation as to how the snails are farmed, prepared and cooked. Finally, you will have the opportunity to try a snail along with a drink of lemonade, finishing with a trip to the shop where you...
Your visit to this traditional sweet factory will be both fun and educational. Patrick and Kerry welcome school groups of all ages to learn how sweets are made from start to finish. The visit includes free tasters and a visit to the shop afterwards. This is one of our most popular visits in Northern France.
One of France's leading theme parks, Bagatelle is ideally suited for younger children. A perfect way to end a trip!
What our teachers had to say about this destination
I would highly recommend Halsbury Travel. They were very helpful in every aspect and nothing was too much trouble for them. I have used different coach companies in the past and unfortunately have not had the same level of helpfulness and brilliant service. I will definitely be using them again for future trips.
The trip provides a good opportunity for pupils to experience being in France and practise speaking French. The Pain Show, Bec a Suc and Boulangerie would all be recommended for others.
Boulangerie Le Fournil - absolutely brilliant. Very friendly and really encouraged our children to have a go at speaking French. Children loved making croissants and kneading the dough for bread. Adults were given tea/coffee and considering the children were all given a croissant and pain au chocolat to take away this was truly excellent value.
A fantastic trip! The pupils loved it all. The bakery and sweet factory were excellent and geared totally towards the appropriate age group. Highly recommended. The coach drivers were super, helpful, good humored and very professional. A super day out!
