In addition to the extensive and priceless collections of the Pushkin Museum, art lovers can also visit the adjacent Museum of Private Collections. Started on the initiative of the art collector Ilya Zilberstein and Director Irina A.Antonova in a specially reconstructed and equipped building of the XVIII-XIX centuries next to the main building this rather eclectic museum displays private collections which were acquired during Soviet times. The permanent exhibition on the ground floor includes some personal affects and drawings belonging to the artists Salvadore Dali and Henri Matisse.
The 3rd floor is distinctly Russian in character and features works by the celebrated 19th century artist Ilya Repin, turn-of the century ballet set designs by Alexander Benois and Boris Kustodiev and numerous Russian icons from the 16th and 17th centuries. The museum''s 4th floor offers an impressive array of Russian 20th century art, including canvasses and sketches by Robert Falk and numerous paintings and pieces of furniture by the constructivist artist Alexander Rodchenko. The museum hosts regular temporary exhibitions.
