School German trip to Berlin
Visit the fascinating city of Berlin, focus of Germany's history and once again the nation's capital.
Berlin's cultural programme is amazing: three opera houses, over 150 theatres and playhouses and over 170 museums. There are many historical sites such as the Brandenburg Gate, the symbol of the divided city during the Cold War and now the focus of a reunified city. Some of the most popular visits with our groups are the Checkpoint Charlie Museum, the Jewish Museum and the Bundestag.

Brandenburg Gate
The Brandenburg Gate was commisioned by Friedrich Wilhelm II to represent peace. The Gate was designed by Karl Gotthard Langhans the Court Superintendent of Buildings, and the main architectural design of this landmark hasn't changed since it was first constructed in 1791. Ironically the gate was both used for triumphant military parades during the Third Reich and incorporated into the Berlin wall...
Potsdamer Platz
In the years since German reunification Potsdamer Platz has made a transformation from a swathe of no man's land abutting the Wall to one of the most sought-after pieces of real estate in the city. It's home to some of Germany's blue-chip companies and to shopping centres and multiplex cinemas.
Bundestag
Formerly the Reichstag, the seat of Germany's parliament lay empty and derelict from 1933 to 1999. Now crowned with a dome designed by British architect Sir Norman Foster, the Bundestag is once again the focus of German political life.
Checkpoint Charlie Museum
During the lifetime of the Berlin Wall, this was the only way for non-Germans to cross from one half of the city to the other. Today, Haus am Checkpoint Charlie preserves some of the original structure of the border crossing, including the famous sign reading 'You are leaving the American sector'. The museum tells the story of the division of Germany and concludes with an exhibition on the develop...
Jewish Museum Berlin
Daniel Libeskind's steel lightening bolt of a building is as much a part of this groundbreaking new museum as the exhibits themselves. Charting the history of Germany's Jews since the Middle Ages, the axes of survival, exile and the Holocaust intersect to represent the experience of Germany's Jews under the Third Reich. The most visited museum in Germany, it's guaranteed to be a thought-provoking ...

Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtnis Kirche
Built to commemorate Germany’s first Kaiser and gutted by bombing in 1943, this church’s spire, "der Hohle Zahn" ("the hollow tooth") towers above Kurfüstendamm. Today, it’s a symbol of Berlin’s postwar reconstruction and a monument to peace and reconciliation.
Berliner Fernsehturm (TV Tower)
Visible from almost any point in the city, the television tower was a flagship of east German architecture. From its base in Alexanderplatz, the heart of what used to be East Berlin, it's possible to take a lift 200m to the top in seconds.
East Side Gallery
The longest surviving section of the Wall that once divided the city, this half-mile stretch along the bank of the River Spree was decorated by artists from across the world in 1990. Since then, it has been the victim of graffiti and official neglect and is falling rapidly into decay. See this unique monument while you still can.
