The small southern Italian town of Pompeii entered the history book is in AD79 when it was destroyed by a volcanic eruption. Today, much of the town has been excavated by archaeologists and what remains has been preserved in amazing detail. From the breathtaking vivid frescoes and still-intact wine-jugs to the casts of the bodies of those who died, as the Garden of the Fugitives, this is one place where it's almost possible to reach out and touch people who lived two thousand years ago.
