Washington DC has been the US Capital since it moved from Philadelphia in 1800 after President Washington began plans for the New 100 Miles Square City in 1791. Since its construction Washington has seen the presidency held by 44 men from George Washington to Barack Obama. In its time as the capital, Washington has experienced everything from Civil War to Civil Rights Protests. A rich history awaits your students to explore and enjoy.
