Cold War History School Trip to Berlin

Visiting Berlin will afford your students a far greater understanding of the history of the city in which so many of the twentieth century’s key events were played out.

Walk along a remaining section of the Berlin Wall, visit the Checkpoint Charlie Museum and the Stasi Museum. The award winning DDR Museum offers a hands-on experience of history - the visitor has to take part, to handle the exhibits and to look behind drawers and doors. The museum shows the crimes of the State Security, the border defences at the Berlin Wall and displays the life of the people in the dictatorship. And at the Hohenschönhausen Stasi Memorial guided tours are conducted by freelance members of the team and most of them are former inmates who relate the tour to their own experience in the remand prison. As they were imprisoned for a variety of reasons during different periods of persecution, they provide an insight into a broad spectrum of political persecution in the GDR.
