School Food Technology Trip to Brussels

Belgium is world-renowned for its chocolate and beer, making Brussels the ideal location for a food technology trip.

There is a wide variety of visits on offer from a demonstration at a local chocolaterie, a visit to the huge Mechelen Fruit & Vegetable Auction and, of course, a visit to one of the many local breweries. The Stella Artois Brewery in nearby Leuven is always a popular visit. A cookery demonstration at a local catering school can also be organised on request.

Day 1

Pick-up from school

Ferry/Eurotunnel crossing 

Arrive in Brussels

Walk in to the beautiful main square (Grand Place) with its Gothic Town Hall

Visit to a Chocolaterie 

Move in to accommodation in time for evening meal
Day 2 Group to visit Mechelen Fruit & Vegetable Auction - one of the largest fruit and vegetable auctions in Northern Europe

Group to visit In Bev Breweries - home to the Stella Artois brand

Depart Brussels 

Ferry/Eurotunnel crossing

Arrive back at school

YH Bruegel

VJH Bruegel is a modern hostel near the heart of Brussels.

Students will mostly be accommodated in 4 bedded rooms, and staff in twins or singles. There are toilets and showers on each floor, but nearly all the hostel's rooms are en-suite. Free WiFi is available.

Breakfast is served everyday, and both packed lunches and evening meals are available on request.

There is also an attractive inner courtyard, sitting corners and leisure rooms where students can watch TV or play board games. A meeting room and the dining hall may be booked for use without charge.

Although the reception is only open 0700-1000 and 1400-0100, groups have 24-hour access to the building once they have checked in. View on map
