London Fashion Week

Posted in: Fashion

Good news for all fashion lovers – London Fashion Week starts today! A 5 day event showcasing some of the world’s leading fashion talent, LFW follows on from New York Fashion Week, which took place last week, and is just as highly anticipated. London is one of the world’s fashion capitals and the whole city is poised to embrace the event, with a truly packed schedule of shows, presentations, installations, showrooms, events and parties.

Oxford Street will sport 75 massive fashion flags featuring a number of catwalk looks from many famous designers, including Vivienne Westwood. There will also be a number of style seminars and exclusive clothing collections to celebrate. Educational institutions are getting involved too, including the London College of Fashion, which is offering free cobbling workshops!

What started as a trade event now poses a fantastic opportunity to enthuse your students about the fashion industry. This year, over 90% of the shows will be live-streamed, giving students the chance to see some of the world’s top designers exhibit their Spring/Summer 2015 collections. There will also be a number of panel talks, primarily discussing the relationship between fashion and technology. Speakers will include famous designers, such as Henry Holland, Neil Harbisson (the world’s first cyborg artist) and Sumit Paul-Choudhury (editor of New Scientist). These talks will also be live-streamed

There will also be a three-part documentary available on BBC iPlayer, including a behind-the-scenes look at LFW, hosted by fashion blogger Susie Bubble, and a guide to the hottest new trends with model Daisy Lowe. These shows will be available from 16th September.

If your fashion students are inspired by the goings-on at London Fashion Week, then why not consider arranging a school fashion tour? With destinations including Paris, New York and Barcelona, our school fashion tours allow students to gain a real insight into the industry and they could even have the opportunity to meet with designers and learn more about the creative process.
